As a non-profit performing troupe, Um...Gee...Um exists to entertain, to tickle the imagination, and to celebrate the spontaneous. Playful and participatory theater is our goal. Each show is completely improvised—created before your eyes and with your suggestions.

Um...Gee...Um celebrated its 22nd anniversary in February of 2011. The troupe has been part of the Santa Cruz theater scene since 1989, starting out with a few shows at the old Cafe Chameleon, then moving to Front Street Pub. In 1991 we moved to the Actors' Theater, and currently perform there as well as other locations in Santa Cruz and beyond.

Um...Gee...Um performs regularly in Santa Cruz and throughout the Bay Area. We strive to present quality, in-the-moment theater that involves the audience as it entertains and encourages them to share the joy of story and spontaneity. Our weekly rehearsals offer us a forum to workshop new formats and ideas for our shows as well as hone our improv skills. We are also available for corporate events and parties!

The Um...Gee...Um Academy of Improv offers beginning through advanced level classes throughout the year. Students who complete the full training series present a graduation performance. Um...Gee... Um has also offered rehearsal/performance internships to students. This program gives up-and-coming improvisers a chance to workshop and rehearse with the troupe, and then join us in performance.
